The handles of socket chisels are less likely to break than tang chisels, and can be replaced easily. Two genuine European ash handles are included with each MHG Socket Chisel – one handle with a hoop for mallet work, and one handle without a hoop for paring work.
MHG have ground the Chrome-Vanadium blades with ‘true bevel’ edges, which means the side bevels go all the way to the back of the blade. Perfect for dovetails and other tight spaces. The cutting edges are ground at 30° and hardened to 61HRc.
The overall balance of the chisel feels further ‘forward’ than the equivalent tanged chisel, because the socket adds more mass in the middle of the tool. Many users find that this lightens the handle-end of the tool and allows for quicker, more intuitive movements.
