Because even the most carefully drilled holes can be fractionally oversized, a perfectly round plug with a slight taper makes for a perfect fit every time. These flute plug cutters from Fisch cut plugs that taper in their length that is just sufficient to ‘take up any slack’. Simply tap the plug into the hole for a snug fit and trim any excess with a flush cut saw. Using the same timber and matching the grain direction results in an almost invisible finish. Use a contrasting timber for a decorative finish.
