This elegant little tool truly deserves the name, ‘utility knife’.
Capable of almost any cutting or carving task, it will quickly become your constant workshop companion. The ideal addition to every woodworker’s kit, from enthusiast to professional.
Utility knives are absolutely essential. Whether you are a hand-tool purist or a machine-head, or somewhere in between, you’ll always need a sharp workshop knife within reach. But disposable snap-off blades are wasteful and expensive over the long run. They’re also flimsy and hard to control in anything but the gentlest of jobs.
The Japanese solution is the kiridashi. A single-bevel utility knife with a controllable, stiff blade that will open all your boxes, mark out your joinery, tidy up your tenons, whittle your flutes… and might even make you a cup of tea!
The SS-400’s blade is made of SK high carbon steel, and the grip and sheath are made of brass. It is manufactured by Yoshiharu Cutlery in Seki, a city that is famous for its sword and knife-making heritage. Featuring a slim, elegant handle and matching sheath, it will fit into your pocket without poking a hole.
While the SS-400 arrives relatively sharp, it can be honed to a much keener edge than the manufacturer has given it.
