Walrus Oil Polymerised Linseed Oil is a fast curing wood finish that is food-safe and environmentally friendly. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a traditional, non-toxic wood finish that cures quickly and looks spectacular.

Polymerised Linseed Oil is a durable, VOC-free, and fast-curing wood finish that provides a protective film when applied to wood surfaces, guarding against aging and scratches while enhancing the wood's natural beauty.

How it is Made

Walrus Oil Polymerised Linseed Oil is 100% oil extracted from the seeds of the flax plant. Flax has been cultivated for thousands of years and linseed oil has been used for various purposes, including wood finishes. Linseed oil polymerises when it comes into contact with oxygen. This polymerisation process is what causes the oil to harden and form a protective coating.

The polymerisation process can be accelerated through the addition of heavy metal salts and other toxic additives. This is what is sold as ‘boiled’ linseed oil in hardware stores. However, Walrus Oil's Polymerised Linseed Oil is totally different. It has gone through a heating process to speed up the polymerization, so it contains nothing but pure, food-safe oil.

How it is Applied

Since Walrus Oil Linseed Oil is polymerised with heat, not chemicals, it has a natural thick and somewhat sticky consistency. You can mix it with a natural solvent (25%), like Tung Oil or Furniture Finish, to thin the product. Buff off residue with non-woven pads after 12 - 24 hrs to remove all excess finish. Buffing may need to be repeated once a day for a few days depending on the environment and amount of finish used.

Walrus Oil Linseed Oil becomes touch-dry within 24 hours in normal conditions. This fast drying time makes it a great choice for projects where a speedy finish is desired. This also makes it easier to build coats of finish.

How it Looks

Linseed oil does not darken wood surfaces as much as tung oil, but may have a more golden hue, generally only noticeable on lighter woods like maple and after multiple coats. It does not produce an artificially glossy appearance but instead showcases a warm and natural sheen, preserving the wood's innate aesthetic appeal.

No Walrus' Harmed

Its versatility, ease of application, and eco-friendly nature make Walrus Oil Linseed Oil a preferred choice among woodworkers and craftsmen for sealing and preserving wooden surfaces.

Walrus Oil produce a range of products from wood finishes to leather care to lip balm. Walrus Oil has been built from a love of nature and a commitment to making clean and safe products that are good for you and good for the environment. The entire product range is 100% free of toxins and synthetic chemicals. Old Mother Earth will thank you.
